The City of Vigan is a 5th class city located in Philippines in the province of Ilocos Sur.
Vigan is a small quiet city that has plenty to offer from Spanish-era mansions, antique shops, cobblestone streets and kalesa or horse drawn carriages. In fact, if you have any doubt of its beauty you just have to confirm with the Philippine government and the Unesco, who have declared this beauty to be a historic and a world heritage site respectively. The ancient history of Philippines is reflected through the city’s baroque churches and Spanish colonial architecture. Did you know that Vigan is known to be one of the best surviving instances of a Spanish colonial town in Asia.
Vigan is considered to be unique amid the towns of Philippines as it is supposedly the country’s only surviving and most widespread historic city which dates back all the way to the Spanish colonial period of the 15th century.
The Vigan hotels do not feel like hotels. They feel like home or rather they feel like you are staying in a huge mansion. The types that Scooby Doo and his gang explored! Be prepared to explore plenty of ancestral homes converted into snug hotels as well as various pensiones to meet the billeting needs of tourists. The unique ambience is further graced by a splattering of resorts a little outside the poblacion.
One of the most popular Vigan hotels to stay in is the Aniceto Mansion Hotel. It is located on Mena Crisologo St. in the Plaza Burgos. The biggest plus point of this hotel is that it is centrally located from all the major tourist attractions.
The mansion itself is an old house which was built during the Spanish era. Initially, most people get a little spooked out but the wonderful ambience and the warm reception quickly changes your perception. In true baroque ambiance, family portraits hang on the walls giving visitors a more homely feeling. The Aniceto Mansion, located diagonally across from the cathedral, has an assortment of rooms to pick from to suit your every need. In fact each room has been refurbished with its initial Hispanic architectural style. That does not take away any of its modern amenities like a TV, air con etc. All rooms have a private bathroom but not all of them have water. A standard room costs about PHP 2275 per night.
